Lakeland Heroes

Below are listed my Heroes of Lakeland:

  • William Wordsworth - Poet

He was born and lived virtually all of his life in the Lake District, and was one of the first people to become associated with the area.  In his poems he describes the nature of the landscape and its effect on the human sprit.

  • Alfred Wainwright - Author of "A Pictorial Guide To The Lakeland Fells"

What more can be said that that hasn't been said already.  His seven Pictorial Guides To The Lakeland Fells are now legendary.

  • Hunter Davis - Author of "A Walk Around The Lakes"

"A Walk Around The Lakes" is one of the best books written about the Lake District.  It really captures the essence of the area by  taking you on a tour of the Lakes and introducing  some of the famous, and not so famous, residents both past and present.  A book you will want to read again and again.  Hunter Davis is also well known for his biographies on William Wordsworth and Alfred Wainwright.

  • W Heaton Cooper - Lakeland Artist

Born in Coniston and followed in his father's footsteps as an artist.  His stylized way of painting is instantly recognizable.  His work can be seen at the Heaton Cooper Studio shop in Grasmere.

  • Lee Chapman - Photographer

If you haven't come across Lee Chapman before he has a Gallery shop in Keswick.  He uses a 5 X 4 view camera and Velvia film.  The large prints on display are absolutely stunning.
