Digital Camera Courses

 

 

* Beginner's - Digital Camera Course (Compact or SLR)

Recommended time 1 x ½ day or 2 x standard sessions

This beginner’s course is intended for the person who is new to digital photography and would like to get the most from their camera quickly and simply

This course will cover the following:

An explanation of the basic camera settings and controls

Setting up the camera ready to use

Transferring the images onto the computer

A guide to taking better pictures

A certificate is awarded when a student can show proficiency with the above

 

 

** Intermediate - Digital Camera Course (Advanced Compact or SLR)

Recommended time 1 x ½ day or 2 x standard sessions

This intermediate course is aimed at the person who is happy using their camera on fully automatic but would like to gain confidence in using the more advanced settings and modes

This course will cover the following:

An explanation of the intermediate camera settings and controls

ISO, shutter speeds and apertures - their meaning and use

Using RAW for better quality images

Understanding the shooting modes

A certificate is awarded when a student can show proficiency with the above

 

 

*** Advanced - Digital Camera Course (SLR)

Recommended time 1 x ½ day or 2 x standard sessions

This advanced course is intended for the person who wants to get the most from their SLR camera

This course will cover the following:

An explanation of the advanced camera settings and controls

Using the camera manually

Flash and fill-in flash

Knowing the best settings to use in different situations

A certificate is awarded when a student can show proficiency with the above

 

 

 

 

Image Processing Courses

 

 

* Beginner's – Image Processing Course

Recommended time 2 x 1 day or 4 x ½ days or 6 x standard sessions

This beginner's course is designed to act as an introduction to using either Adobe’s Photoshop or Elements image processing software

This course will cover the following:

Organizing image files on the computer (PC only)

Understanding image file types

Processing an image using Adobe’s Photoshop or Elements

Printing an image and / or formatting for digital projection

A certificate is awarded when a student can show proficiency with the above

 

 

** Intermediate – Image Processing Course

Recommended time 2 x 1 day or 4 x ½ days or 6 x standard sessions

An intermediate level course covering both RAW and layers in either Adobe’s Photoshop or Elements image processing software

This course will cover the following:

Understanding RAW

The use of layers

Converting images to monochrome

Adding borders and text to an image

A certificate is awarded when a student can show proficiency with the above

 

 

*** Advanced – Image Processing Course

Recommended time 2 x 1 day or 4 x ½ days or 6 x standard sessions

An advanced course for people who are confident using Photoshop and layers and want to take the creative possibilities further

This course will cover the following:

Further use of layers including blending modes and opacity

The power of layer masks

Using blur for creative effects

Mixing colour and monochrome

A certificate is awarded when a student can show proficiency with the above

 

 

 

 

Supplementary Courses

 

 

Visual Awareness Course

Skill Level:   * Beginner's  ** Intermediate   *** Advanced

Recommended time: 1 x 1 day or 2 x ½ days or 4 x standard sessions

A half day course to increase your visual awareness to enable you to recognize and take better photographs

This course will include the following:

The essential elements in an image

Composition and the rule of thirds

Understanding tonal range, shadows and highlights

The use of colour and monochrome

A certificate is awarded when a student can show proficiency with the above

 

 

RAW Course

** Intermediate   *** Advanced

Recommended time: 1 x ½ day or 2 x standard sessions

A half day course to explain all the advantages of using RAW files and to give you the confidence to use them

This course will include the following:

Setting the camera to shoot RAW

Opening RAW files

Converting RAW files

Converting RAW files into monochrome

A certificate is awarded when a student can show proficiency with the above

 

 

Restoring Family Photographs Course

** Intermediate   *** Advanced

Recommended time: 1 x 1 day or 2 x ½ days or 4 x standard sessions

A one day course to give you the skills necessary to restore and print your old family photographs

This course will include the following:

Scanning or copying the original photography

Repairing and retouching the image in Photoshop or Elements

Recreating sepia tones

Printing the image

A certificate is awarded when a student can show proficiency with the above
