All of the pictures in this gallery were taken at North Weald
airfield in Essex where I am a volunteer aircraft marshal. The airfield dates back to the first world war and went on to become a
famous fighter station during the second. RAF operations from North
Weald ended in 1958. It was used again
in 1968 for some of the scenes in the film "The Battle Of Britain".
Now it is the home for several aircraft collections and various fly-ins take
place throughout the year. The Squadron provides the club facilities
which are housed in WW II buildings complete with furnishings of the period
- walking into the Squadron is like going back in time. In 2006 the
airfield celebrated its 90th anniversary.

When sitting outside the Squadron on a fine sunny day - look up into the sky
and close your eyes: it does not take much imagination to hear the sound of
the Merlins and the chatter of the pilots as they talk about their exploits
back in the summer of 1940.
